Martha A Arnold (nee Linder) died at her home in Massena Thursday. She lived in Clarke County many years but has been away from here almost 20 years. Her many acquaintances in this community will learn with sorrow of her demise.

Mrs. Martha A. Arnold was born in Monroe County, Ind., March 28, 1838, and died at Massena, Ia., May 8, 1907, aged 69 years, 1 month and 10 days. Mrs. Arnold was married to her first husband, Gillam Overton, in 1855. She became a widow in 1862, Mr. Overton dying a short time after enlisting in the 39th Iowa regiment.

She married Samuel R. Arnold December 31, 1863, and became a widow the second time November 11, 1888. She leaves to mourn her departure three children, William Overton and Alec Arnold both of Miller, Neb., and Mrs. Samuel Archer of Massena, Ia. Mrs. Arnold became a member of the Baptist church in her seventeenth year, and united with the Christian church with her husband in 1871, thus living a devoted christian the greater part of her life.

The remains were brought here Saturday from Massena, Ia., and the funeral occurred Sunday from the Christian church, Rev. F. Ellsworth Day preaching the funeral sermon. Her three children were all present at the funeral. Mrs. Arnold was an old resident here and will be remembered by many of the old settlers, being the sister of Mrs. William Stansbury, now deceased.

Interment was made in the Nelson Cemetery in Nuckolls county, Nebraska.
