February 14, 1907, Page 1Wm. Wharff was born in Washington county, Ohio, Jan. 9, 1825 and died in Clarke county, Iowa Feb. 5, 1907. He was one of this county's pioneer settlers having lived here continuously since 1854. He was a man of sociable disposition and was respected by all who knew him.
He was married June 19, 1849 to Mary A. Millard, to which union were born three children; one of whom, E. G. survives. In 1867 his wife died. In 1869 Mr. Wharff was married to Mary A. Boden. This union was broken by the death of the wife January 9, 1904.
On November 27, 1904 he married Lydia Ann McManus who with his son, E. G. of Des Moines; one brother, of New Virginia and one brother in Washington county, Ohio, together with a host of friends are left to mourn his decease.
The funeral service was held from the M. E. church in Liberty conducted by the write. A large concourse of people assembled to pay to him a last tribute of respect. C.E.W.
