Obituary.

John Trumbo died at his home in Liberty township, Clarke county, Iowa, on Wednesday, February 15, 1888, aged seventy-five years, three months, and seventeen days. The deceased was born in Licking county, Ohio, in the year 1812. Fifty years ago, in Allen county, Indiana, he married Miss Sophia McGuire, who now survives him. In the year 1854 the deceased, with his family, moved to Clarke county, Iowa, where he has since resided. He raised a large family to man and womanhood--five sons and three daughters living; one daughter buried, and one son sleeps beside the father. Some twenty years ago, by the accidental discharge of a gun, Mt. Trumbo was shot in the arm, which left him a cripple for life, and for some five or six years he has been suffering from brain trouble, which was the cause of his death. He was one of the oldest residents in this part of the country and was known as a straight-forward honorable citizen, a good neighbor and a kind husband and father. For the last five years he was known to have lived a Christian life. One of his last expressions was, "I want to go home, to be with Christ." Though he was of a retired and quiet disposition, not disposed to make an outward show, his crown will be just as bright, his happiness just as complete, his reward just as permanent and lasting as though he had the ability of the most polished divine. The deceased leaves a feeble companion who is prostrated with grief and sorrow. The funeral took place from Bethel Chapel. Services were conducted by Re. Joseph A. Morris of Liberty, after which the remains were laid to rest in the family lot in the Bethel cemetery.
