David Emery, of Doyle township, this county, died at his home on Tuesday evening, October 31, 1899. For some months he had been suffering from heart trouble and the past two weeks he was unable to lie down. His final departure was painless and he entered the unseen life with calm assurance of faith. Mr. Emery was born in Ohio in 1822 and was seventy-seven years and two days old at his death.

In 1844 he married Miss Mary Albright, of Stark county, Illinois. Nine children were born to them of whom Mrs W.F. Martindale, of Des Moines, Mrs. Lottie Shepherd, of Knox township; Mr. Henry Emery of Doyle township; and Mrs. Jane Sanders, of Des Moines, survive.

In 1878 Mrs. Emery died. They were both members of of the Christian church. In 1879 Mr. Emery was married to Miss Ann Luce, who survives him. Mr. Emery was an up right and respected neighbor and husband and a loving father to his children.
Mr. Emery came to Clarke County along about 1855 and has seen the marvelous changes in its transformation from almost a wilderness to its present magnificent condtition. One by one, our pioneers are departing. Happy is it if they may go with the faith of Mr. Emery, who urged his children not to weep since he was going to a better world.

The burial took place in the Murray cemetery, after a funeral discourse at the family home by J.H. Wright, of Osceola.
