Philip . Fowler, veteran of the Civil War and well known throughout the city and surrounding community was unable to resist frail health any longer, passing on to his reward Tuesday night at 11:30 P.M.. For several months Mr. Fowler has been gradually wasting away and tender care from lovin relatives could not withstand the death reaper.

On September 3, 1929 he was 84 years of age. He came here with his parents from Ohio in 1854 when but a lad spending his entire life here with the exception of eight years in Des Moines. He saw 90 days active service in the Civil War being a member of the 46th Iowa Infantry.

Mr. Fowler at one time held a county office and served as state secretary of agriculture for several yeas. He was one of the founders of the local Methodist Episcopal church and helped to organize the former Osceola National bank. His later life was devoted to real estate. He was active in the work of the local G.A.R. post until it disbanded a few years ago.

His companion in marriage passed away in 1917. He was the father of six children, Freddie, dying in infancy, Miss Amy Fowler of Osceola, Mrs. Laura St. Clair, deceased; Mrs. Margaret Manning, deceased; Mrs. Mary Banta of Osceola; Mrs. Martha Wick of Hermosa Beach, Calif., and Philip L. Fowler, Los Angeles, Calif. An aged sister is still living, Mrs. Laura Johnson of Los Angeles.
Funeral services will take place Friday at 2:30 P.M., from the Webster Funeral Home, with the Rev. Claude R. Cook, conducting the service. Burial will be at Maple Hill.
