Miss Lulu Lowe was born in Clarke County, Iowa, June l, l865, and died at the home of her parents, in Weldon, Aug. 29, l90l. As the evening shadows were gathering over the earth her spirit took its flight to God who gave it, and whom she ever loved and ardently and faithfully served. A part of her life was spent in Osceola and Leon, consequently many hearts are made sad in those towns and communities by her death, as well as in the town and community of her late home. She confessed her faith in Christ as her Savior and was baptized at the early age of seventeen years and has ever since been a true and consistent member of the Christian Church. Her whole heart and life was consecrated to Christ and His church. The Christian life to her did not mean idly folding the hands together, but it meant activity, it meant work, and she was never so happy as when engaged in work for the Master and was ever found at her post of duty. Even during her last sickness she was constantly planning in church work and what she hoped to do if she grew stronger. Her home environments were all that could be desired and life to her was sweet yet she bore her lingering uncomplainingly and with that resignation that convinced all that the prayer of her heart was "Thy will, O Lord, not mine be done." To weeping friends about her death bed she said it was not hard to die and when her father, in tender tones asked her if the crossing over was not hard, she said almost lightly, "Not for me, God has been so good to me."

She was progressive in all lines of church work and improved every opportunity to better fit herself for whatever she saw to do with head and hand. She sought opportunity to attend every district and state convention possible. She attended national conventions at Boston, San Francisco and Kansas City. All of this together with a careful and continual study of the Bible, and other good books, papers and magazines will account for the unfailing interest and constant effort in the cause of Christ.

Being a graduate in music she had taught successfully for twelve years and her pupils may be numbered by scores in Clarke and Decatur counties. She had been the faithful and efficient organist of the church for years, seldom being absent. The Junior Society Christian Endeavor received her attention and services as superintendent years. Her dying message to them was to meet her in Heaven. She was always a helper of strength in the young people's prayer meetings and was a most loyal member and worker in the Christian Woman's Board of Missions. Her dying request was that a Life Membership that she had previously taken in that organization and of which a good share she had paid, should be paid in full the same as if she had lived. Indeed, mission work was almost a mania with her. She had been heard to remark that if it were possible she would be delighted to go into the slums of the cities and teach the degraded and ignorant humanity the way to a higher and better life. She was at the time of her death county manager of the work of the C. W. B. M. which position meant work. And wishing to have her name connected with every good work, became a member of the W. C. T. C., and her whole heart was in sympathy with all the teachings of that organization and never missed an opportunity to speak and work against the greatest evil of our country, the liquor traffic. She was a good and pure girl. In her dying moments she calmly bid each one about her bed good bye with a request to meet her in Heaven. Her funeral sermon was preached by her pastor, Rev. C. L. Organ assisted by Rev. G. E. Mitchell and Rev. Mathews, pastor of the M.E. Church. In a beautiful white casket she was laid to rest in the family burying ground northeast of Weldon. She was the only child of her parents since the death of another daughter, fourteen years of age, several years ago.

Mr. and Mrs. Lowe have the most heartfelt sympathy of their neighbors and friends in this bereavement. May they have faith to believe that God doeth all things well.
Mrs. L. L. SHOWERS.
