Jerry Ryan, 75, of Osceola died July 16, 2012, at Lucas County Hospital in Chariton.

Memorial services were 10 a.m. Saturday, July 21, at Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon. The Rev. Max Carmichael officiated. Burial will be in Van Wert Cemetery.

Jerry Russel Ryan, son of Maxine Noah (Simmerman) and George Robert "Bob" Ryan, was born July 21, 1936, in Van Wert.

Jerry attended county school near Van Wert. He then attended Weldon High School. His senior year he attended and graduated from Osceola High School.

After high school, Jerry married.

Jerry worked various places, including owning and operating Dairy Queen in Osceola, working for J.C. Penney in Osceola before transferring to Davenport and then St. Louis, Mo. In Rockford and Marengo, Ill., he was a car salesman. He owned and operated an auto paint and body repair business in Cocoa Beach, Fla. Jerry employed both his son Kelly and daughter Denise there. Later Jerry operated a bed and breakfast and helped with the care of many foster children, while living in Oak Hill, W. Va.

Jerry moved back to Osceola to help with his parents during their final years. While there, he operated the Bait Station, selling fishing bait and pet supplies. He leased out the station and retired in 2008.

Jerry is survived by his children, Kent (wife Debbie) Ryan of Hartford, Kelly (wife Kusum) Ryan of Pleasant Hill and Denise (husband Michael) Christman of Waukee; grandchildren, Amanda, Danielle, Alisha, Drew, Hannah, Kari, Anna, Katie, Roshni and Abihisek; sister Linda Lutzen of Fort Wayne, Ind., two nieces; other relatives and friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles.
