O'Leary Funeral & Cremation Services Celebration of Life Center

Sherry Maxine Ryan, age 80, died suddenly Saturday evening August 18, 2018, in the emergency room at Mercy Medical Center, after spending a wonderful afternoon with her family celebrating her up and coming 81st birthday this Thursday, August 23rd.

A visitation will begin at 10 a.m. with a funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 23rd at the Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines. A luncheon will be served following services at the church, and graveside service will take place at approximately 1:30 p.m. at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Osceola, IA [directions to cemetery from West Des Moines follow I-35 southbound to Exit 33, then turn right (east) toward town. In a few blocks just pass the Pizza Hut, turn right (south) onto South Ridge Road and follow into the cemetery]

Pall Bearers for Sherry Ryan will be Larry Butts, Kent Ryan, Kelly Ryan, Mike Christman, Blake Brown, Lou Carbone; with Honorary Pall Bearer being Hannah Ryan.

Sherry's Life Story

Sherry, the daughter of Clifford Dale and Bessie Maxine (nee: Hart) Gracey, was born August 23, 1937 at the hospital in Osceola, Iowa. Sherry grew up in Osceola graduating with the Class of 1955.

Following school she married her high school sweetheart, Jerry Ryan. To this union they had three children, Kent, Kelly and Denise.

Sherry and Jerry lived in several communities throughout the United States before settling in Osceola in 1993. There they owned and operated a bait and tackle shop.

Sherry enjoyed quilting, crafting and church. She was a former member of the Assembly of God Church in Osceola and currently a member of Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines.

Sherry moved to Waukee following the death of her husband in 2012 and then to Norwalk in June 2017 where she resided at Regency Care Center.

Sherry is survived by her daughter Denise (Mike) Christman of Waukee; two sons, Kent ~ the "Golden Child" (and fiancé, Christine Doran) of Carlisle and Kelly (Kusum) of Pleasant Hill; a sister, Stephanie (Larry) Butts; two brothers, Herman (Sandy) Gracey of Osceola and Curt (Sandy) Gracey of Norwalk; 8 grandchildren, Amanda, Danielle (Pablo), Hannah, Kari (Lou), Anna, Katie (Tom), Roshni, and Abishek; two great-grandsons, Cooper and Fielder; a nephew, Ryan Gracey; and niece, Melissa Brown and her children, Blake, Gracey and Brayden.

Sherry was preceded by parents; her husband Jerry in 2012; and nephew, Cameron Gracey.
