August 26, 1909 , page 1Monday Mrs. J. H. Polly received news of the death of her father-in-law, William Polly, which occurred at Whiting, Iowa, August 13, caused by a stroke of paralysis a short time before.
His age was 85 years, 8 months and 27 days. "Uncle Billey," as he was better known to our older citizens, came to this county in the 1850’s and remained here 35 years or more. At one time he served as postmaster.
The last few years of his life were spent at Whiting, Monona county. His wife died five years ago. He leaves to mourn three sons and two daughters, beside many other relatives, among whom are 32 grandchildren and 64 great-grandchildren.
