1898, February 3 , page 6Mrs. John Mongar died at her home in Osceola, Monday, January 3lst, Mrs. Mary Alice Mongar, aged fifty years, six months and seventeen days. She had been ill about a week with typhoid pneumonia.
Mrs. Mongar's maiden name was Wade and she was born in Des Moines county, July 11,1847. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Wade, who moved to this county in her childhood. On November 2, 1873 she was married to Mr. John Mongar at the residence of John Diehl near Osceola, since which time the greater part of her life has been spent in Osceola.Seven children were born to this union, namely: Herbert, Charles F., Jennie, John, Robert, Chester and Harry, all of whom are at home, the youngest being six years of age. Three brothers, Charles H, James, and Will Wade and one sister, Mrs. Elijah Hart, survive her.
Mrs. Mongar became a member of the Christian church before her marriage and remained a consistent Christian all her life, identifying herself with church membership for about thirty years.
She was a good wife and mother. The home circle is bereft of a loving, watchful guardian, and the heart-broken husband and father have the sincere sympathy of many friends in this the greatest affliction that could have befallen them.
The funeral services were held at the Christian church today (February 3rd) in the presence of a large crowd of friends, the services being in charge of Rev.
Wright.
