1920, August 5 page 4

Elijah Hart was born in Marion county, Ohio, December 10, 1833, and departed this life at his home in Osceola July 30, 1920, having passed the 86th milestone some seven months and twenty days.
He came to Davenport, Iowa, when nineteen years of age and from there he came to Clarke county the next spring.

On February 4, 1860, he was united in marriage to Sarah Elizabeth Wade and they immediately moved to their farm four miles northeast of Osceola where they lived for some thirty years after when they came to Osceola where they have made their home since.

In 1861 he enlisted in Co. F, Sixth Iowa, infantry where he served until the close of the war. He came home in August, 1865, having received his honorable discharge.

Mr. Hart united with the Union Chapel church of Christ some fifty years ago and served in the capacity of elder for nearly that length of time. He was an honorary elder in the Osceola church when death came.

He was a very unassuming man and by that disposition made many friends. He was a constant worker in the church and always enjoyed attending to the spiritual things. He was a kind loving father and husband, a good neighbor and a generous hearted Christian.

Five children came to bless this home, three boys and two girls. Two boys and one girl died in infancy. He leaves behind, to beckon on, a loving wife who has been his constant companion for more than fifty years, one son, William Hart of Sherman, California, one daughter, Miss Effie Hart, who has been at home and cared for the father and mother during their declining years. He also leaves one brother out of a family of ten full brothers and sisters, John Hart of Agra, Oklahoma. He also leaves two grand-sons.

The entire community will with tender memories extend their sympathy to all who mourn. Funeral services were held from the Christian church Monday afternoon conducted by the pastor, P.G. Dennis and burial made in Maple Hill cemetery.
