Ida Ann West, daughter of Dennis Hubert Baker and Marjorie Mae Baker was born August 15, 1942 in Mountain Grove, Missouri and passed from this life, May 4, 2021 at Southern Hills Specialty Care in Osceola, Iowa at 78 years of age.

Ida grew up in the Van Wert area. She graduated from Van Wert High School in 1960. During high school Ida participated in softball, basketball, and band. She performed in school plays, held class officer positions, and was active in 4-H.

Ida was united in marriage to Wayne Gerold West (Toots) on August 27, 1960 and two children blessed this union.

Ida spent several years working alongside her husband on the farm outside of Weldon, IA. She raised a large garden; freezing and canning many items for her family to enjoy throughout the winter. Ida was an excellent cook and showed her love to her family by blessing them with wonderful meals. Over the years she had many interests including slow-pitch softball, bowling, sewing, crocheting, and playing the guitar. She loved music, especially hits from the 50’s.

Over the years Ida also held positions off the farm, including working as a seamstress at Snowden’s and a production worker at Paul Mueller Company. When her husband experienced a stroke, Ida retired from Paul Mueller Company.

Ida’s greatest loves were her husband, children, and grandchildren. Ida and Wayne enjoyed dancing, playing cards, traveling, and spending time with friends.

After her husband passed, Ida spent her time reading western books, taking care of Tiger (her cat) and taking her mother out for coffee. Ida kept track of many birthdays and anniversaries, and never missed sending a card to close friends and family.

Those relatives who preceded Ida in death were her husband, Wayne West; father, Dennis Baker; brothers-in-law, Sam West, Wendell West and Marion West; sister-in-law Coleen West; nephew, Bradley West; and many cousins, aunts and uncles.

Left to cherish Ida’s memory is her mother, Marjorie Baker of Osceola, IA; brother, Ray (Carla) Baker of Osceola; daughter, Lorie (Scott) Kent of Osceola; son, Mickey West of Weldon; grandchildren, Augustus Sherry, Austin (Alexis) West, Dannelle West, Timber Kent, and Julie West; great grandson, Ledger West; as well as other relatives and many friends.

Graveside services will be Friday, May 7, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Van Wert Cemetery in Van Wert, Iowa with Pastor Todd Carol officiating.

Interment will be in the Van Wert Cemetery, Van Wert, Iowa
