Thomas Edwin Barnard son of Isaac and Elvira Swain Barnard was born in Shelby county, Indiana, September 28, 1852. He was one of a family of eight children. At the age of 15 years he moved with his parents to Clarke county, Iowa where he lived until he passed away October 16, 1927, at the age of 75 years and 18 days.

October 23, 1884, he was married to Martha Foster who survives him. To this union seven children were born, namely, Eva Lucile, who died at the age of 16 months; Carrol of Osceola; Gladys, who died at the age of 9 months; Lela of Osceola; Paul of Washington, D.C.’ Garret of Des Moines, and Ross of Osceola.

There is also one grandchild, little Mary Catherine, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Garret Barnard of Des Moines. He is also survived by one brother and three sisters, namely: Theodore Barnard and Mrs. Florence Foster, both of Des Moines, Iowa, and Julia and Lydia Barnard, both of Osceola, Iowa. All of his children and his wife were with him at the time of his passing.
