William Powers was born February 23, 1835, near Colfax, Montgomery county, Indiana. With his parents he came to Iowa settling in Washington county, when he was but two years old. Here he grew to manhood.
July 3, 1862, he was united in marriage to Miss Louisa Beatty. About 42 years ago he moved to Clarke county, locating near Murray. In 1894, he moved to Murray where he lived until his death which occurred Nov. 2, 1907. He leaves an aged wife and one son, J.B. Powers of Murray, to mourn his departure.

He has been in very poor health for several years, but bore patiently his suffering to the last. Funeral services were held from the home Monday, Nov. 4, 1907, at eleven o;clock, by his pastor A.J. Carrick, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Murray cemetery.
A good citizen, kind neighbor and faithful friend has gone from our midst. The symphathy of the community is extended to the bereaved family.
