Buried Tuesday; Came To
County in 1864

Services for Mrs. John Agans, well known Murray woman, were held from the Watts Funeral Home in Murray Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock with Rev. M. O. McKenzie officiating. Mrs. Agans died Sunday at the home of her son, William, in Murray. Burial was in the Murray cemetery.

Hester Ann Little, daughter of Hugh and Mariah Stiffler Little was born in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, September 12, 1851 and came to Iowa with her parents in the fall of 1864, taking eight weeks to make the trip by covered wagon from eastern Ohio to Prairie Grove, 12 miles northwest of Osceola. She was married March 21, 1869 to John Agans who preceded her in death in 1917. Seven children were born to this union. Two girls, Jennie and Rhoda, died in childhood, and the youngest son, Robert, passed away two years ago. She is survived by the other four sons, John and Charles of Albia, William of Murray, and Edward of Lovilla, and by one sister, Mrs L. A. Browns of Murray. There are also five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild, besides many other relatives and friends.

With her husband she lived on farms northeast of Murray until 1897, moving then to Murray where they resided until her husbands death. Later she spent much of her time with her sons in Monroe County and with her son William in Murray at whose home she passed away on April 4, 1943.

She united with the Methodist Church in Murray after coming there and was active in the church until she moved away. She was a devoted wife and mother and a woman of fine Christian character.
