Dennis Hudson

Funeral services for Dennis S. Hudson, 22, who was fatally injured in an automobile crash near Hollywood, Florida December 6, were held from Miller funeral home Friday afternoon, with the Rev. Miller officiating. Interment was in the Legion section of Laurel cemetery.

A 1942 New Virginia high school graduate, Dennis enlisted in the Navy that year and had spent 17 months in the South Pacific, and was stationed at Ft. Lauderdale, Florida for nearly one year.

Dennis Sherman Hudson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Park Hudson, was born in Hawarden, Iowa on October 3, 1923 and passed away at Miami, Florida, on December 7, 1945 from injuries received in an automobile accident at the age of 22 years, 2 months and 4 days.

His early childhood was spent in Hawarden, moving with his parents to a farm near New Virginia in 1939 and to Osceola in 1942. He graduated from the New Virginia high school with the class of 1942. Dennis enlisted in the Navy in November 1942 and received his boot camp training in Great Lakes and latter training at Memphis, Tenn. He spent 17 months in the South Pacific as a tail gunner on a torpedo bomber and participated in several engagements. His carrier was the USS Intrepid, dubbed the "Most hit carrier in the fleet." On December 25, 1944 he returned to the United States where he has been stationed at Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Dennis united with the Baptist church at Scottsburg, Ind., in 1937.

Besides his parents he leaves to mourn his death, two sisters, Mrs. Viola Miller of Chicago and Elaine at home; three brothers, Warren of Osceola, Wendell at home and Verlyn serving in the army at Keesler Field, Biloxi, Mississippi.
