Hopeville Youth Dies of Kick.

Gerald Smith, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Smith, of Hopeville, died at 12:35 Monday morning at Greater Community hospital in Creston from being kicked on the head by a mule. The youth was kicked Thursday and never regained consciousness.

An operation was performed at 5 o'clock Saturday afternoon, a few hours after he was taken to Creston, in an attempt to save his life. The blow on the head had been so severe that splinters of the skull touched the brain.

The body was taken to Hopeville Monday morning.
