John E. Shively
Died In California

Funeral services for John E. Shively, former resident of the Jackson township area in Clarke county were held Monday, Feb. 7, at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Scottsbluff, Nebr. He died February 1 in San Francisco at the home of a son, Dr. J. Paul Shively.

Mr. Shively was born November 19, 1876 in Clarke county, the son of Jacob and Hattie Gibson Shively.

He attended Battle Creek College, Battle Creek, Michigan and Union College in Lincoln, Nebr. On March 1, 1910 he married Nellie L. Davis at Minatare, Nebr., and resumed farming six miles east of Osceola.

Mr. Shively was Jackson township school treasurer for 35 years and was an elder of the Osceola Seventh-day Adventist church. In 1945 he moved from Iowa to Scottsbluff, Nebr., where lived until 1964. His wife Nellie, died at Scottsbluff in 1963. Since 1964 he has divided his time, living with two sons.

Surviving relatives include his two sons, Dr. J. Paul Shively and John D. Shively of Grants Pass, Ore.; a foster daughter, Margaret Ennis of Glidden; two sisters, Mrs. Edith Halvorsen and Mrs. Susan Nelson, both of Sanitarium, Calif.; 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, a sister, Dr. Ida Nelson of St. Helena; a brother Dr. J. Dow Shively, former Osceola physician; and a brother and sister Ray and Ollie, who died in infancy.
