Mrs. W.J. Winston died at the home of her father, Peter Lankford, Osceola, Iowa, May 25, 1911. The deceased was born in Gentry county, Mo., October 19, 1868, and came with her parents to Osceola, Clarke county, Iowa, in the fall of 1870. Here she grew to womanhood and was united in marriage to W. J. Winston of Ottumwa, October 15, 1891, moving immediately to Ottumwa where she and her husband continued to reside until just before her death. The deceased became afflicted February 1, 1911, with lung trouble which continued to grow worse until May 16th, when she came to her father’s home in Osceola where her last hours of life were spent and she passed to her home of eternal rest.

Mrs. Winston embraced a hope in Christ early in her life and became a member of the A.M.E. church but after her marriage she became a member of the second Baptist church of Ottumwa, Iowa, remaining a true loyal worker. She leaves her husband, father, two uncles, one aunt, four sisters and one brother, with a large circle of other relatives and friends who mourn her departure.

Funeral services were held in the A.M.E church Sunday, May 28th, conducted by Rev. Edwards, assisted by the Rev. Hill, after which the body was laid to rest in the Maple Hill cemetery.
May God in his tender pity compassionate the bereaved.
F. Edwards
