Mr. Peter Lankford (colored) passed away at his home last Thursday evening, August 1, 1912, about eight o’clock, at the advanced age of eighty-five years.

He has been a resident of Osceola for a number of years and was respected by everyone. Mr. Lankford was freed from slavery at the close of the civil war and could relate many incidents of the cruelty and the hardships of his early life. He leaves to mourn his death five children, all of whom were present at the funeral exciting one daughter, who lives in New York.

Funeral services were held at the A.M.E. church Sunday afternoon. Burial in Maple Hill cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lankford of Des Moines, Mr. Newman and Mr. Curtis of Chariton, Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Wilson and Mr. and Mrs. Grant Thomas of Murray and John Walker of Des Moines, were here Sunday to attend the funeral of Peter Lankford.
