May 27, 1897 page 4Mrs. Emma Lankford died, May 21, at her home in Osceola, aged 47 years, 5 days. She was born in Kentucky, May 16, 1850, and she married Peter Lankford the month of Lincoln’s assassination, which was April, 1865. To them have been born ten children. Seven survive, to mourn a kind mother, and Mr. Lankford is also left.
It will be seen that this woman’s life had undergone many changes, rising, through the stirring years of the war and emancipation, to the beginning of married life as a free woman. She has lived in Osceola for many years and was much liked. She was a member of the A.M.E. church, and strove to live by the light as she saw it. The funeral was held, Saturday p.m., and in the absence of the pastor, Rev. L.R. Follansbee conducted the services.
