Samuel W. Black passed away suddenly Friday while sitting in a chair at the home of his son, E. H. Black, in Osceola. Mr. Black had a few moments before walked from the table where he had eaten breakfast to a chair in the dining room. He picked up a paper to read. The end came suddenly and without warning.

Although he had been in poor health for some time and physicians held out no hope of ultimate recovery his passing was a shock to the family and many friends.

The deceased had been a resident of Clarke county for more than fifty years. He came with his parents from Warren county and located in the Woodburn community where he spent the remainder of his life. A few weeks ago he disposed of his personal property, and came to Osceola with Mrs. Black to reside for a time with his son, E. H. until permanent plans were made for the future. Mr. Black was well known and leaves many friends to mourn his passing.

He passed away at the home of his son, Earl Black, in Osceola, Iowa, January 16, 1931. He came with his parents to Warren county, Iowa, at the age of ten years and lived there five years. Then moved to Clarke county, Iowa, where he resided the remainder of his life. On December 18, 1885, he was united in marriage with Miss Alice McQuern. To this union two sons were born: Earl Black of Osceola, Iowa, and Murle Black of Billings, Montana.

In 1894 he united with the M. E. church of Jamison, Iowa, and in 1907 transferred his membership to the Woodburn Christian church.
