Thomas Johnson, of Clarke county, Iowa, was born in Hanover, Germany, June 9, 1825, and died Sunday morning, at 1 o’clock, July 26, 1896, aged seventy-one years, one month and seventeen days.

His father, John Johnson, emigrated to American and settled in Clarke county, Iowa, remaining here until his death in January, 1884. Thomas Johnson left his native country in 1845 and after coming to America made his home most of the time in Sangamon county, Illinois, until 1856. He returned to Germany in 1852 and married Miss Elizabeth Ackiermann, a daughter of F. Ackermann.
Nine children were born to them of whom seven survive him to mourn their loss.

Thomas Johnson came to Clarke county in 1856 and has been a resident here to the day of his death. He as confirmed and joined the Lutheran church at the age of seventeen years, of which he was a member until he came to Clarke county. He then united with the Methodist Protetant church and lived a faithful member until death. He expressed himself as being ready and willing to go at the call of the Master. Funeral services held in the M.E. church at Murray by Rev. G.W. Robinson, assisted by Rev. J.W. Smith after which the remains were laid to rest in the Murray cemetery to await the resurrection morn.
