Mrs. John Hilliard.

Irene, daughter of George and Elizabeth Jackson, was born in Lafayette, Illinois July 30, 1845, and died at her home in Osceola February 18, 1918, aged 72 years, 6 months and 19 days. When eighteen years of age she with her parents moved to Clarke county, Iowa, where she had since lived except three years in Washington and two years in Illinois. She was married to John Hilliard April 16, 1868, To this union three children were born, George dying when five months old, Frank of Ottumwa and Mrs. Mabel Mitchell of Osceola, Iowa, still survive.

About the year 1866 she was converted under the ministry of Rev. E. S. Brown and joined the Methodist Protestant church at the Frame class.

She has been in failing health for a number of years but the final summons came without warning and quietly she slipped away about three o'clock Monday morning. She had a wide circle of friends for her friends were numbered by her acquaintances. She possessed the faculty of making and keeping friends.

She leaves to mourn the companion of her youth, the two children above mentioned, two brothers, Frank of California and John of Canada, and two sisters, Mrs. J. M. Fenn of Murray, Iowa and Laura Dickenson of Washington; also three grandchildren, besides other more distant relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at the home yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock conducted by Rev. J. C. Leonard, after which the body was laid to rest in the Fremont cemetery.
