CECIL I. LOOMIS

Cecil Ivor Loomis, son of Lillie Margaret Goodrich Loomis and James Walter Loomis, was born Oct. 18, 1905, in Clarke County and died June 30, 1993, at Hospice Kavanaugh House in Des Moines at age 87.

He attended country schools in Washington Township and was affiliated with the United Methodist Church.

He married Leora Hays on October 18, 1933, at Bethany, Mo. and the couple were the parents of a daughter, Delores.

Mr. Loomis' early years were spent in Clarke and Madison Counties except for five years when the family moved to Nebraska.

During his adult life he farmed and was a gunsmith and carpenter. He also worked at the Ford Implement plant in Des Moines. Mr. Loomis took great pride in his work. If he couldn't buy a part he needed for a gun or a piece of machinery he would make it. Mr. Loomis enjoyed teaching his grandchildren his woodworking skills and he liked to have them come to his shop.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Lloyd and sister, Mabel Winnett.

Mr. Loomis is survived by his wife, Leora of Des Moines; daughter and son-in-law, Delores and Bob Johnston of Altoona; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, Cathy and Ted Churchill, Dan and Mike; Barbara and Ben Bass, Katy, Ben and Joe; Mike and Cathy Johnston, Amanda and David; Karen and Alan Brewer, Lisa, Sara and Jesse; Nancy and Tim Hopper and Jacob; and Tom and Joy Johnston and Carley.

Services for Mr. Loomis were held at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola at 11 a.m. Saturday, the Rev. Judith Miller officiating. The organist, Pennie Gonseth accompanied Emil Rinderspacher as he sang the hymns, Amazing Grace and The Old Rugged Cross.

Casket bearers were Mike Johnston, Tom Johnston, Ted Churchill, Ben Bass, Alan Brewer and Herbert "Swede" Hamilton. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery at Osceola.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice Kavanaugh House in Des Moines.
