Henry G. Snider was born May 18, 1847, in Lafayette, Madison county, Ohio, and was the only child of John and Martha Snider. His mother died when he was about one year old, and his father married again in 1849, to Drusilla Ellsworth. They lived in Lafayette until he was about seventeen years old, when they moved to a farm near the same place where he lived until he came to Iowa in 1875. On September 14, 1876, he married Hattie E. Mathews. Eight children were born to them, six of whom survive him, namely: John W., Elmer M., Clallie M., Claude V., Morris E. and Rena B. Mr. Snider died at 10:30, Sunday, June 30, 1895, at Lieut. Mathews' where he had been taken suddenly ill while visiiting him. Services were held in the Hebron church Monday. Rev. Shepton delivering the sermon, after which the remains were interred in the Hebron cemetery.
