“Mary Elizabeth Wallace”

“Mary Elizabeth, daughter of Austin and Martha Erb, was born in Lucas county near Last Chance on December 28, 1874, and departed this life on July 21, 1956, at the age of 81 years, 6 months and 23 days.

When she was a small girl, her parents moved to the Smyrna community where she spent her entire life with the exception of the last 14 years which have been spent in Weldon where she moved after the death of her husband in 1842.

On March 30, 1897, she was united in marriage to Alvador W. Wallace. To this union three children were born: Vincelle, who preceded his mother in death at the age of four years, Kermit, who now lives near Garden Grove, and Robert of Weldon.

Besides these two sons she leaves two daughters-in-laws, Ruby and Gladys, six grandchildren, Virginia Thomas, Norma Goben; Richard, Shirley, Karen and Sharon Wallace; three great-grandchildren, Sheryl and Carol Thomas and Rae Jean Goben; two brothers, W. O. Erb of Des Moines and H. B. Erb of Humeston; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends to mourn her passing.

Her father, mother, three sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.

At an early age she united with the Christian church at Last Chance and was a faithful worker in the church as long as her health permitted.

Funeral services were held at the Christian church in Weldon on Monday, July 23, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Walter Goughnour officiating. Pallbearers were” Wayne Keeler, Harold Pearcy Forrest Wallace, ...old Coffey and Max Ruthledge.

Burial was at Last Chance cemetery.”
