“Amos L. Elmore, son of Stevan A. and Hannah C. Elmore, was born in Brown county, Indiana, June 21, 1859, and died March 27, 1939 at his home at Woodburn, at the age of 79 years, 9 months and 6 days. He came with his parents to Iowa in the year 1865 and located on a farm near Ottawa, Iowa. He has lived his entire life in and around Woodburn, Iowa. He was the oldest son of a family of six children, three boys and three girls. All have preceded him in death but one sister, Mrs. Charles Clark of Woodburn. He has two half brothers, Oscar N. Clark of Wyoming, Isaac N. Clark of Osceola; and one half sister Rilla A., wife of Kay Wolverton of Derby, Iowa.

He was united in marriage to Hattie V. Wallace. To this union four children were born Smith Vernal, Atley Wallace of Crothersville, Indiana, Clyde H. of Marion, Indiana; one daughter Roxie deceased at 1 year and 6 months; three grandchildren, Dale R. of Woodburn, Iowa, Geraline Bernice of Cothersville, Indiana and Virgil Wayne Elmore, also of Crothersville, Indiana, One great grandchild, Donald Lee Elmore and a host of relatives and friends.

The body lay in state at the Forster Funeral Home until services which were held at two o’clock at the M. E. church at Woodburn, Rev. Osborne of Chariton officiating. The singers were Mrs. Frank Boor, Mrs. Jesse Marquis, Mrs. Loa Marquis and Mrs. Dorothy Evans, with Mrs. Maude Davis at the piano. The pallberrers were John Crist, Lawrence Marquis, Guy Heston, Levi Herndor, and Gurna Marquis.

Burial at the Last Chance cemetery.”
