“Austin S. Wallace”

“Austin Sayre, son of Isaac and Eliza Wallace, was born August 30, 1862 in Urichsville, Ohio, and departed this life at his home in Weldon, Iowa, March 10, 1945, age 82 years, 6 months and 8 days.

In early manhood he moved with his parents to Clarke county, Iowa.

On March 10, 1887 he was united in marriage with Mary Elizabeth White at Ogalola, Nebraska, where they lived on a homestead for a short time. To this union were born two sons and two daughters: Armanus R. of Des Moines, Merton E. who passed away in 1926 in Detroit, Mich., Minnie M. Erb of Garden Grove and Luella Wood of Weldon.

Most of his life was spent in this community with the exception of two years at Oskaloosa where the family moved for the education of the children at Penn College Academy.

Surviving, beside his immediate family are two sisters, Hattie V. Elmore of Osceola and Mary E. Myers of Grendale, Arizona, 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Laura J. Wallace, and four brothers, Ulysess S., John D., Alyadore W. and Isaac Virgil.

He lived a long and useful life and passed to his eternal reward on the 58th anniversary of his wedding.

He has been a member of the Friends church for many years. He was a loving husband and father and always devoted to the highest interests of his children and grandchildren, and they will, in the words of scripture, ‘rise up and call him blessed.’

Funeral services were conducted Monday, March 12, at 2:30 p.m. from the Weldon Methodist church, with Rev. Anna Albery of the Friends church in charge. Interment in the Friends cemetery with Lamoree Funeral Service in charge.”
