“Friday from Friends Church; Died Monday At Daughter’s Home”

“Funeral services for Mrs. Mary E. Wallace, 82, were held Friday afternoon, March 16, from the Friends church in Franklin township. Rev. May Wallace officiated.

Mrs. Wallace died Monday March 12, at the home of her daughter , Mrs. Earl Wood of Paonia, Colorado.

The daughter of William and Martha White, she was born June 22, 1868, in the Smyrna community, a short distance from Smyrna Friends church. She spent the early years of her life there.

She was united in marriage to Austin S. Wallace on March 10, 1887 in Ogallala, Nebr., where...the plains, living in a sod house.

To this union four children were born: Minnie, Armanus, Merton and Luella. Merton preceded her in death March 7, 1926, and her companion on March 10, 1945, their 58th wedding anniversary.

With the exception of the short time in Nebraska, and two years in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the family resided in the Smyrna and Weldon communities.

In May, 1949, she went to Paonia, Colorado to make her home with her daughter, Luella.

Surviving are three children: Mrs. Minnie Erb of Garden Grove, Armanus of Des Moines, and Mrs. Earl Wood of Paonia, Colorado; 14 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.

She was a life-long member of the Friends church.

Burial was in the family lot at Friends cemetery.

Music was furnished by Karolyn Sponsler and Ardeth Anderson, accompanied by Mrs. John Goodwin. Pall bearers were Robert Wallace, Wayne Keeler, Arnold Coffey, Harrison Erb, Winston Wood, and Forest Wallace.”
