Edna Atha
Edna Stansell Atha died on June 3, 2003, at her home in Canon City, Colo. She was 92.

She was born Feb. 26, 1911, in Osceola to Andrew Thomas and Lotta Bell Stansell. She was educated in the Osceola public schools and taught there for eight years. She also taught in the Chariton schools for 35 years.

She married Basil W. Atha of Chariton on Feb. 25, 1940. They became the parents of two children.

Later in life they moved to Canon City. After she retired in Canon City Mrs. Atha taught people who could neither read nor write. She loved to china paint and was a beautiful painter , winning awards at the state fair. She was a member of the First Christian Church throughout her life.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters and their spouses and three brothers and their spouses. A brother and sister-in-law, M.T. “Sport” and Esther Stansell were lifetime residents of Osceola.

Mrs. Atha is survived by two sons, Tom Atha of Canon City and Eric Atha, of Colorado Springs, Colo. Several nieces and nephews survive. Local area nieces, include Ann Diehl of Osceola and Linda Ruble of Des Moines.

Memorial services for Mrs. Atha were June 8 at the First Christian Church of Canon City. In lieu of flowers, children’s books may be donated in her name to the Canon City or Osceola Public Library. Other memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Hospice, P.O. Box 1796, Canon City, CO 81212-1796.
