L.G. Benbow
Funeral services for L.G. Benbow were conducted Sunday afternoon from the Webster Funeral home with the Rev. J.N. Waterman presiding. Burial was in Fremont cemetery.
Music for the services was provided by Mrs. Floyd McComas and Mrs. Zulu Painter, accompanied by Mrs. Waterman. Pallbeareres were Ray Sargent, Oscar Hatcher, Frank Trumbo, Joe Depperman, Foss Tillotson and Harry Funston.
Second son of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse E. Benbow was born near Osceola, Iowa April 27, 1891 and passed away at his farm home near Liberty, November 26, 1947 at the age of 56 years and 6 months.
He was united in marriage to Florence Switzer July 26, 1917. There were no children born to this union, but they lovingly cared for the adopted son Galen A. Benbow through his tender years, his mother having died when he was one year of age. [Galen's parents were Lafe and Mabel Patterson Benbow; Lafe was brother of Lon]
The sudden death of Lon Benbow caused by cerebral hemorrhage last Wednesday was a distinct shock to his family, neighbors and friends. He had lived his entire life in Clarke and Warren counties, the past 30 years engaged in farming and stock raising.
Since the death of his father a little over four months ago he has untiringly looked after the welfare of his aged mother, Mrs. J. E. Benbow [Mary L. Proctor Benbow].
He leaves to mourn his death his wife, Florence, his son Galen, his mother, one brother Lafe B., of Afton, one sister Mrs. Iva Kierulff of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and many relatives and friends.
