My G G grandmother was Mary McGruder Noon came to this area in 1855 with her husband and children from Ohio where they suffered anti-Irish abuse. But rather than settling in western Chickasaw County, they stayed nearer the trail from Fort Atkinson to Dubuque and settled SE of Lawler, just across the line into Fayette County. This was a thriving new Irish immigrant settlement started by Patrick "King" Brannon who led the exodus from Ohio. Thus it was called the Brannon settlement. All that remains of their pioneer Saint Rose of Lima parish is the cemetery on 306th Ave btwn Xavier and Willow Roads. I have more info if any McGruders wish to email me.
