Nettie Johnson
New Hampton – Nettie Johnson, 102, died Friday, Jan 19, 2001 at the New Hampton Care Center, New Hampton of natural causes. Funeral services were 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22 at Immanuel Lutheran Church (Crane Creek), rural Lawler with Reverend Peter D. Peterson officiating. Verna Orvis was the organist and accompanied those in attendance singing “How Great Thou Art” and “Amazing Grace”.
Burial was in the church cemetery with Alvin Paulson, Orin Johnson, Paul Johnson, Wallace Knutson, Merle Hereid and Clair Munson serving as casket bearers. Visitation was from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21 at Conway Funeral Home, New Hampton, and also an hour prior to services at the church.
Mabel Annetta Johnson was born Sept. 17, 1898 in Chickasaw County, the daughter of Ole K. and Mari (Offerdal) Hereid. She was baptized and confirmed in Crane Creek Lutheran Church and attended local schools. She was married to Severt O. Johnson on Feb 5, 1919 at the Crane Creek Parsonage. They farmed in Howard County for many years and moved to Chickasaw County in the early 1940s. After Severt’s death, Nettie moved to New Hampton. She entered the Care Center in 1996. Nettie was an active member of the Crane Creek Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed helping friends and neighbors, gardening, crocheting and baking.
Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Severt, on Sept. 6, 1979; three sisters, Henrietta Munson, Clara Knutson and one in infancy; five brothers, Chris, John, Ole, Ingval and Nelvin.
