OBITUARY
Mrs. Anna Marie Cawelti (nee Weiler) was born Aug. 22, 1830, in Oberwalden Goppingen, Germany, In 1852, she united in holy wedlock with George Cawelti and shared with him the joys and sorrows of life for about 45 years. This union was blessed with 8 sons and 2 daughters; her husband and 3 sons preceded her in death.
During the same year of her marriage, she emigrated with her husband to the United States and settled in Wisconsin. At a camp-meeting, in 1853, she was converted and united with the Evangelical church, in which she has led a devoted Christian life unto the end. In 1855, she came to Chickasaw County where she resided until about 4 years ago. In July 1903, she came for a visit with her daughter, Mrs. Phil Krats, who lives about 4½ miles south of Cresco. Shortly after her arrival, she was taken seriously ill and has been so feeble since that she was unable to return to her home.
Mrs. Cawelti has been afflicted with rheumatism for over 20 years, so badly that she was compelled to use crutches for years. Since she has lived with Mrs. Kratz, she has been entirely helpless and waiting for the Lord’s call to Glory. She died Thursday, Feb 14th, at 8:30 a. m.
A short funeral service was held at the home of Mrs. Kratz, after which the remains were taken to Alta Vista for interment. Funeral services were held in the Evangelical church In Alta Vista. Saturday afternoon, at which time Rev. Wienands preached in German, and Rev. Buente in English. Interment was in the Alta Vista Cemetery by the side of her husband.
