Deaths.
FITZPATRICK.--At her home in Lawler, on Thursday, January 10. 1901, Mrs. Jeremiah Fitzpatrick, aged 85 years.
In the death of this venerable woman is removed another of the band of pioneers whose labors and character have left a rich legacy to those of us who came after. Mrs. Fitzpatrick's illness dated from seven years ago when she suffered a paralytic stroke. For the past five years she had not been able to walk, or even to speak, except at intervals, and then in a whisper. She bore her trials with great fortitude and finally passed away in peace to that home prepared for the faithful servants of God.
Catherine Collins was born in Dunmany, Ireland, in the year 1816. At the age of 18 she came to America, making her home in Boston. She was united in marriage with Jeremiah Fitzpatrick on August 21, 1843. After a term of years spent in various eastern states the family removed to Chickasaw county in 1855, settling on a farm in Jacksonville township, which continued to be the home until 1899, when the family removed to Lawler. Her husband died Jan. 12, 1894.
Deceased was the mother of ten children, eight of whom are living. They are Timothy of St. Louis, Jere of Ratocn, New Mexico; Daniel of California; Rev. J. L. Fitzpatrick of Chicago, Miss Ellen Fitzpatrick and Patrick of Lawler, and M. J. of this city. Of these there were present at the funeral the four last named. Jere arrived from New Mexico, but too late to again look upon his mother's face. Other relatives present were Messrs. G. E. Rochford of Devon and P. Murray of Hammond, Wis., nephews of deceased, together with their wives.
The funeral was held on Saturday from Lady of Mt. Carmel church. Solemn requiem mass was celebrated by the Son, Rev. J. T. Fitzpatrick, assisted by Rev. B. H. Forkenbrock of this city, as deacon, Hey. M. J. Quirk of Hawarden as sub deacon and Rev. Garrahan, master of ceremonies. The remains were laid to rest in the parish cemetery, whither they were followed by throngs of old friends and neighbors who knew and loved the beautiful life now brought to a close. A noble Christian mother has gone to her reward and her children rise up to call her blessed.
