Death or Former Iowa Minister.

Rev. A. J. Kynette, D. D. L. L. D., one of the charter members of the Upper Iowa Conference of the Methodist Episcopal church, died at Philadelphia, Feb. 23, 1899. Dr. Kynette entered the Iowa Conference in 1851 and has been in the active work of the church ever since. In 1867 he was made secretary of the Church Extension Society of the M. E. church. In the organization of which he was the prime factor and in which he has been the leader ever since, holding the position of corresponding secretary at the time of his death. During the thirty-one years of his secretaryship the society has received a disbursed $6,240,000.

Dr. Kynette was a clear thinker, a forceful and able preacher, a strong platform speaker and an able and indefatigable worker in the cause of temperance and prohibition. He was also a wise administrator and successful financier as the work of church extension in his church demonstrates. He has represented his conference in the General Conference of the church continuously since 1860.
