David Tingley was born in West Virginia. March 1, 1813, and died at his home in Nashua, December 1900.

At an early age he went to Ohio, and in 1835 to Clark county, Illinois, where in 1840 he and Elizabeth Thompson were united in marriage. In 1847 he and his family moved to Green county. Wisconsin, and seven years later came to Chickasaw county, Iowa. With the exception of four years in Minnesota and a year in Illinois he had been a citizen of this county from 1854 till the time of him death. In 1887 his wife died and in 1891 he was married again to Harriett Mitchell, a sister of his first wife, who survives him. He has no children living.

David Tingley was well known by the older generation of this county. He was a successful farmer and during him lifetime accumulated a considerable amount of property. He was an upright, honest man, loved by his friends and respected by all. During the last year or two of his life his health was poor, but it was his good fortune to retain a vigorous mind and body until long past the four score period.

His body was interred in Graceland cemetery on New Year's day.

Was Known In Early Days.

David Tingley, one of the pioneer citizens of Chickasaw county, died at Nashua Dec. 29, and was buried at New Hampton on the 31st. Mr. Tingley is remembered by some of our older citizens as the man who used to row passengers across the Wapsie when the stage could not cross and the stage from Bradford met the stage from West Union. — West Union Union.
