NASHUA - Opal Welter, 90, Nashua, died Sunday morning, Jan. 2 at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City of natural causes.

Funeral services were 10:30 a m. Thursday, Jan. 6 at St. John Lutheran Church in Nashua.

Burial was in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, Charles City.

Visitation was from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5 at Chenoweth & Son Funeral Home in Nashua and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Opal was born on an Indian Reservation in Oklahoma on June 16, 1909, the daughter of Walter and Lillie (Moore) Wood. She attended rural schools in Bradgate. On Dec. 10, 1927, she married Peter C. Welter at Dakota City. Opal was a homemaker and worked for two years as an aide at Fritze’s Nursing Home in Nashua.

Surviving are two daughters, Marion (Wayne) Ziehe, Renton, WA and Helen (Delbert) Anderson, Coon Rapids, MN; two sons, Robert (Dorothy) Welter, Nashua and Roger (Sherry) Welter, Fridley, MN; 12 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchilren; 17 great-great-granachildren; five brothers, Walden (Bill) Wood, Algona, Condol (Con) Wood, Marietta, MN, Robert (Bob) Wood, Burt, Leonard Wood, Alberta, MN and Elton Wood, Whitmore; seven sisters, Catherine (Lucille) Liest, Fort Dodge, Dorothy (Dot) Martin, Nashua, Betty VonBank, Milan, MO, Elizabeth (Blondie) VonBank, Nevis, MN, Elsie Eischen and Bonnie Esser, both of Algona, and Mary Ann Reynolds, Peoria, AZ.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Peter on June 21, 1985; her parents; a sister, Examae Wood in infancy; two brothers, Glen Wood and Kenneth Wood.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
