ALTA VISTA- Herbert H. Waters, 89, died of natural causes Monday, Dec. 4, 2000 at Mercy Medical Center, New Hampton.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 6 at the United Methodist Church, Elma with Rev. Catherine Luck officiating. Dr. Curtis W. Rainy was the organist and accompanied those in attendance singing "How Great Thou Art" and "In The Garden".

Burial was in the Union Cemetery, Alta Vista with Tim Lockwood, Randy Lock-wood, Eric Lockwood, Jamie Lockwood, Ken Golly and Harold Golly serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers were Cy Freidhof, Leo Heying, Jim Rouse and Joe Grober;

Visitation was from 4 to 8 .m. on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at onway Funeral Home, Elma and also an hour prior to services at the church.

Herbert was born June 6, 1911 near Colwell, the son of Harry and Eda (Arthur) Waters. He attended country school in his back yard. After his schooling he moved to Marble Rock and farmed with his brother-in -law. On Jan. 27, 1934, he was united in marriage to Alfaretta Young in Bethany, MO. After their marriage the couple farmed near Marble Rock for two years and then moved to a farm between Colwell and Alta Vista. In 1976, they retired from farming and moved to Alta Vista, where they were currently residing. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Elma. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Alfaretta; a daughter, Becky (Jim) Hart, Petersburg, IL; a son-in-law, Jim Lockwood, Hiawatha; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Velva Brown, Mason City, Edith Nauman, Mason City and Elsie Ray, San Diego, CA and one brother, Tom Waters, Independence, MO.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a daughter, Marilyn Lockwood; three brothers, Lloyd Waters, Merle Waters and Arthur Waters and two sisters, Juanita Burns and Dorothy Wells.
