NEW HAMPTON - Cecelia L. Wanderscheid, 79, died Friday, April 7 at the New Hampton Care Center of natural causes.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 10 with Rev. Marvin Salz celebrating the Mass. The Pall was placed on the casket by her three daughters. Offertory gifts were presented by her granddaughters, Barb Martini and Diane Shileny. Paul Schwickerath was lector. Music for the service was provided by Ann Bennett as organist and St. Mary's Choir.

Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery with Dennis Balk, Kelvin Leibold, James Forkenbrock, Bill Martini, Luke Porter and John Porter as pallbearers.

Visitation was held from 3 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 9 at Larkm-Martin-Hugeback Funeral Home, New Hampton, where there was a 4 p.m. Catholic Daughters of America Rosary and a 7:45 p.m. Parish Scripture Service.

Cecelia was born in New Hampton on June 25, 1920, the daughter of Peter and Lucie (Kirpach) Leibold. She attended school at St. Mary’s Catholic School in New Hampton. After school she worked at St. Joseph Hospital in New Hampton.

On Sept. 1, 1938 she married Wilfred Wanderscheid. Initially the couple farmed east of Lawler until 1959 at which time they moved south of New Hampton and farmed. Cecelia had worked in the kitchen of the former Rogers Famous Foods in New Hampton and in 1974 opened C & W Flower and Gifts which she operated until July 27, 1980 at which time she suffered her heart attack. Cecelia became a resident of Americana Nursing Home in Waterloo for four years and moved to the New Hampton Care Center on Aug. 21, 1984.

Memberships include St. Mary's Catholic Church and Rosary Society and Cecelia also was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America - Mount Carmel for over 50 years. She was a former member of the New Hampton Chamber of Commerce. Prior to her heart attack she enjoyed crocheting in her free time.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Wilfred; two sons, Martin (Mary) Wanderscheid, Waverly and John (Alice) Wanderscheid, New Hampton; three daughters, Catherine (James) Balk, Waucoma, Carol Ehler, New Hampton and Jane (Brad) Porter, Garnavillo; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Joe Leibold (Phyllis), New Hampton.

Preceding her in death were her parents; a son-in-law, Floyd Ehler; a daughter-in-law, Rita Wanderscheid; and a brother, Lawrence Leibold.
