NEW HAMPTON - Norma Allene Wahl, 72, New Hampton, died Thursday, July 20 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN after a short illness.
Funeral services were 11 a.m. Monday, July 24 at First Congregational United Church of Christ in New Hampton with Rev. David McBride presiding. Kim Hilgendorf was pianist and Connie Hilgendorf played guitar. They sang: "Seek Ye First" and "You Are Mine". Those in attendance also joined in singing "How Great Thou Art" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus".
Interment was in the New Hajmpton Cemetery with Neil Wedeking, Larry, Lee and Lynn Hilgendorf, Dale Macklenburg and Maurice Randall serving as casket bearers.
Visitation was after 3 p.m. Sunday, July 23 at Conway Funeral Home in New Hampton and also at the church an hour before service time.
Norma Allene Wahl was born Jan. 1,1928 near Dows, the daughter of William Nelson and Sara Anne (Adams) Nicholson. When she was a child, the family moved to Floyd where she graduated from Floyd High School. On July 25, 1948, Norma married Wendell James Wahl at the Congregational Church in New Hampton. They lived and farmed near New Hampton for 52 years. She enjoyed membership in the Women's Fellowship of the Congregational Church and was a member of the Las Amegas Club. She also enjoyed baking bread and cookies, bird watching, reading and playing cards with family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors are her husband, Wendell; a daughter, Susan (Donald) Selk, Dysart; two sons, Dennis (Julie), New Hampton, Richard (Valerie), West Des Moines; seven grandchildren; one sister, Marjorie Heitmann, Frederic, WI.
Preceding her in death were her parents; a son, Wesley; a grandson, Matthew Wahl; three brothers, Arthur, Eugene and Dean Nicholson; three sisters, Ruth Wedeking, Dorothy Bonwell and Betty Meyer.
A memorial fund has been established.
