NEW HAMPTON ~ Catherine V. Tierney, 90, New Hampton, died Thursday, Sept. 28 of heart failure at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Hampton with Father Carl Schmitt presiding. Ann Bennett was organist, accompanying the St. Joseph Resurrection Cnoir and cantor Joyce Shatek. Lector was Sister Phyllis Hackman, presenting the Offertory gifts were Jaime Tierney and Michelle and Amanda Kuhn. Eucharistic Ministers were Joseph and Georgia Tierney.

Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in New Hampton with grandsons, Kevin, Mike, Brad, Brian and Patrick Tierney and Steve and Jeff Gleason serving as casket bearers.

Visitation was Friday, Sept. 29 at Conway Funeral Home in New Hampton with a combined Catholic Daughters and Parish Rosary at 4 p.m. and a 7 p.m. Scripture Service and also an hour prior to services at the church.

Catherine V. Tierney was born Sept. 17,1910 at St. Lucas, the daughter of Joseph Sr. and Katherine (Boyer) Franzen. She attended St. Luke's School in St. Lucas and married Roy Tierney Nov. 10,1936 at St. Lucas. After their marriage, they lived for a time in Lawler before moving to New Hampton. Catherine was employed as a cook at St. Joseph Hospital and for many years was a cook at the County Home. In later years, she was a volunteer at the NeW Hampton Senior Site and also at the New Hampton Care Center.

Surviving are two daughters, Teresa (Harlan) Anderson, New Hampton, Betty (Gerald) Gleason, Waterloo; four sons, Jim (Georgia) Tierney, Waterloo, Tom (Judy) Tierney and Arnold (Lois) Tierney, New Hampton, Francis (Janet) Franzen, Ossian; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; six brothers, Carl Franzen and Lawrence Franzen, New Hampton, Pete Franzen, Ossian, Louis Franzen, Lawler, Irvin Franzen, Hawkeye, LeRoy Franzen, St. Lucas; two sisters, Theresa Baumler, Fort Atkinson, Helen Palmersheim, Greeley.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Roy on Jan. 13, 1978; one great-grandson, Justin Tierney on May 14,1995; two brothers, Leonard and Ray Franzen; one sister, Marie Bruening.
