Services Held for Doris Starr, 70
Doris E. Starr, 70, of Cedar Rapids died Thursday evening, January 13, 2000 at Mercy Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Services were held Monday at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East by Rev. William Hamish with burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Doris was born January 20, 1929 near Riceville to William and Dorothy Horseman Kruger and came to Cedar Rapids in 1946. She married Marion C. Starr September 28, 1946, and he died February 14, 1971. Doris married William C. Riha August 22, 1980 in Cedar Rapids. She owned and operated Dorie’s Green Square Tavern from 1977 to 1985. Doris was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She loved to raise flowers and crochet and she was a wonderful cook.
Survivors include her husband, William Riha; one daughter, Deborah Starr, Cedar Rapids; one son, Dennis M. Starr and wife Shirley, Cedar Rapids; stepdaughter, Linda Howanietz and husband Darrin, Bristol, Wise.; three stepsons, Dennis Riha and wife Margaret, Cedar Rapids, Kenneth Riha and wife Sylvia, Dayton, Ohio and Rick Riha and wife Anjelica, Cedar Rapids; Twin sister, Doloris Tomey and husband Gay, Riceville; sister, Donna Hemann, Cedar Rapids; brother, DeWayne Kruger and wife Elizabeth,4 Waterloo; and five grandchildren, six step grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, a son Dean C. Starr in 1987, and a brother, Donald Kruger, in 1997.
