FREDERICKSBURG
Gene William Speicher, 75 died Saturday, July l, at Allen Hospital in Waterloo of natural causes.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 5 at Peace United Church of Christ, Fredericksburg, with pastor Joan Fumetti officiating. Yvonne Lienau was organist and Keith Kruen was vocalist. Hymn selections included "My Hope is Built on Nothing Less'*, "Amazing Grace", "How Great Thou Art* and "God Will Take Care of You".
Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg, with Gary Steege, David Speicher, Louis Whitnable, Bill Elliott, Dean Speicher and Charles Speicher as casket bearers.
Visitation was Tuesday, July 4 at Chenoweth & Son Funeral Home in Fredericksburg and an hour prior to services at the church.
Gene was born Aug. 6, 1924 in Chickasaw County, tne son of Charles and Winnie (Martin) Speicher. He received his early education at a country school southeast of Fredericksburg. Gene was united in marriage with Alyce Schaub at the Evangelical & Reformed Church in Fredericksburg. Gene lived all his life in the Fredericksburg area. He was employed by Davis & Son Electric, Hewitt Brothers Quarry, Paul Niemann Construction, Sumner Rock Crushing and also part-time at the Farmers Cooperative. Gene was a member of Peace United Church of Christ where he had served as a trustee, liked to fix things and in the past, enjoyed fishing and bowling. He helped with senior meals and other community happenings.
Surviving are his wife, Alyce, Fredericksburg; a son, Larry Gene (Mary) Speicher, Waterloo; a daughter, Bonnie Speicher and friend, Dennis Graves, Des Moines; two grandchildren; a sister, Pearl Steege, Fredericksburg; two brothers, Roy and Donald Speicher, both of Fredericksburg.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Vera Whitnable and Winifred Elliott; two brothers, Earl and Leo Speicher.
