Services were held Tuesday, May 16 at Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville for Lester R. Seavy, 87, Riceville native who died Friday, May 12, 2000 at the Riceville Community Rest Home.
The Rev. Thomas Mowbray officiated. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery.
Mr. Seavy was born May 27, 1912 in Riceville, son of Frank and Charlotte Meinzer Seavy. He attended grade school and two years of high school in Riceville then worked on his parent's farm east of Riceville. During this time he completed a course from Cook Electrical School and in 1942 moved to Burbank, Calif., where he worked at Lockheed Aircraft.
He entered the Army May 11, 1942 and served in the Asiatic-Pacific and U.S. Continental area. He was an automotive mechanic in the 23rd Military Police with the rank of technician 4th grade. On his discharge from the service Nov. 9,1945 he returned to Lockheed where he worked until retirement in 1959.
During his retirement years he worked as a handyman doing lawn mowing, electrical, plumbing, mower and auto repair out of the shop at his home. He returned to Riceville on a yearly basis until 1984. He had an avid interest in cars and their repair.
Survivors inlcude a sister, Hazel Seavy, Riceville; nephews James and Gerald Seavy, both of Cedar Rapids and Gary Seavy, Sheridan, Wyo.; nephew in law Chuck Eckhart, Waterloo; a niece, Judith Ann Hickman, Des Moines; grand nieces and nephews Tracy and Ed Magnin, Granger, Ind.; David Seavy, Rochester, Minn.; Michelle Seavy, Cedar Rapids; Marine Capt. Jeff Seavy, San Diego, Calif.; Rachel Adams, Sheridan, Wyo,; Tim Seavy, Lebanon, Ind.; Ann Eckhart, Waterloo; Todd Eckhart, Reinbeck and Jamie Hickman, Modesto, Calif. Also eight great-grand nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Floyd, Donald, Gaylord and Gilbert; a niece, Barbara Eckhart and a sister-in-law, Mary Seavy, wife of Donald.
