NEW HAMPTON - Sarah Schwickerath, 97, a life-long resident of the New Hampton area, died Saturday, April 29 at the New Hampton Care Center in New Hampton of natural causes.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 3 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Nashua with Rev. Marvin Salz celebrating the mass. The pall will be placed on the casket by her granddaughters, Lora Christensen and Cindy Martin. The offertory gifts will be presented by Stacey Schwickerath and Samantha Martin. Music for the service will be provided by Ann Bennett as organist and St. Mary's Choir.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery with Larry Christensen, Kevin Martin, Roland Schwickerath, Virgil Schwickerath, Mark Schwickerath, Allen Schwickerath and Tim Schwickerath as pallbearers.

Visitation was held from 3 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 2 at Larkm-Martin-Hugeback Funeral Home in New Hampton where there was a 4 p.m. Rosary and a 7 p.m. Parish Scripture Service.

Sarah was born in rural Chickasaw County on Jan. 1, 1903, the daughter of Gerhard (Gerd) and Anna (Pitz) Miller. She attended rural country school west of New Hampton.

She was united in marriage in 1925 to John Schwickerath. The couple lived and farmed six miles west of New Hampton until 1956 at which time they moved to New Hampton. John died on Aug. 25, 1987.

Sarah was a former member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in North Washington and a current member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Hampton. In her spare time Sarah enjoyed gardening and crocheting.

Survivors include one son, Vernon Schwickerath, Ionia; six grandchildren, Cindy Martin, Roland Schwickerath, Lora Christensen, Allen Schwickerath, Stacey Schwickerath and Timothy Schwickerath; and five great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her husband, John; her parents; two sisters, Clara Pitz and Elizabeth Miller; and three brothers, Alfred Miller, Raymond Miller and a brother in infancy.
