Jerry Schmitt, 60

Funeral services for Jerry Schmitt of Stratford were held Friday, August 25 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Rozellville, WI. Rev. Thomas J. Rudolph officiated. Interment was in St. Andrew’s Cemetery.

Jerry, 60, died Tuesday, August 22, 2000 at his home in the Town of Cleveland, WI following a courageous battle with cancer.

Jerry D. Schmitt was born January 7, 1940 in Chickasaw County, the son of Joseph and Christina (Kunt) Schmitt. He was a 1957 graduate of Notre Dame High School in Cresco. After his education he fanned with his parents in Iowa until he entered the United States Army, serving with the 101st Airborne Division from May 14, 1963, until his honorable discharge on September 9, 1964. He then returned to Iowa where he farmed with his brother, Arlo, until his marriage.

On October 15, 1966 he married Darlene Ruth Blahnik at St. Ignatious Catholic Church in Spring Valley, MN. After their marriage, the Schmitts dairy farmed in the Town of Cleveland, WI for 33 ybars until they sold their farm in the fall of 1999.

Survivors include his wife Darlene; five sons; Ally of Stratford; John of Wisconsin Rapids, Paul, Walt, and Jerry N. all of Stratford; four daughters: Debbie Bauman, Betsy Schmitt, Barbara Schmitt, and Carmen Schmitt all of Stratford; seven grandchildren; seven brothers: Raymond of Carlsbad, New Mexico, Walter of Edgar, Lester of Lime Springs, Joseph of Sarasota, FL, Robert of Harpers Ferry, George of Cresco, and Arlo of Mabel, MN; and three sisters: Marilyn Trappe of Monona, Delores Shileny of New Hampton and Joyce Mrachek of Cresco.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and one brother: Edmund.
