MONTICELLO - Anthony L. Schmit, 77, died Friday, April 14 at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Monticello following an extended illness.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 18 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello. Monsignor Neil Tobin officiated at the service.

Interment was at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Monticello.

Visitation was held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning at the Goettsch Funeral Home in Monticello.

Anthony L. Schmit was born July 21,1922 in Dubuque County near Peosta. He attended school north of Gerryowen and later at Prairieburg.

In 1944 he married Romona Sherman. Ramona died in July of 1959. Tony worked in the restaurant business in Dubuque, New Hampton and Fredericksburg. He'also ran a Culligan water softening business in New Hampton.

Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Roseabella Schmitt and Bernice Schmit, both of Dubuque and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Ramona; his Parents; three brothers, Cyril, Francis and Clarence; and one sister, Lenore Lawrence.
