IONIA — Florence L. Reiss, 82, Ionia, died Thursday, July 5 at Floyd County Memorial Hospital, Charles City of natural causes.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 10 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Ionia with Father Francis Perry officiating. Marie Siglin was organist and Peter Willadsen was soloist.
Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery in New Hampton with Darrell Albrecht, Tom Brown, Mose Finnegan, Leo Rasing, Lloyd Robbins and Dave Swenumson as casket bearers.
Visitation was Sunday, July 9 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Ionia Funeral Home with a 7 p.m. prayer service.
Florence was born Oct. 27, 1917 in rural Nashua, the daughter of Arthur and Ella (Shannon) Boershel. She married John Reiss on Jan. 2,1939 at Immaculate Conception Church, North Washington-Following their marriage they lived on farms near North Washington and Bassett and in 1964 moved to Ionia. Florence was a long-time member of St. Boniface Church, Ionia and was an active member of C.D.A. She was also a 4-H leader for a number of years, a County Committee woman and was a very active participant in Counsel for the Aging. She was active with the Nashua Historical Society, Ionia Senior Citizens, Democratic Women's Committees, Deer Chix Club and Royal Neighbors of America.
Survivors include two daughters: Dolores (James) Albrecht, Anamosa and Karen (Michael) Beam, Dayton, OH; six grandchildren; three greatgrandchildren and two sisters: Marie Peters and Lorene Stumme.
Preceding her in death was her husband John in 1985.
